Cutroom is an open-source AI video editor by Lorelei Noble, built on Kdenlive: a fork with a real scripting interface, an MCP server exposing 183 editing tools, and an assistant panel inside the editor window. Does Cutroom upload my footage or change my project without asking?
By default the assistant uses a model running on your own machine (Ollama), so nothing leaves the computer, and it never uploads your video files. If you point it at a remote service, Cutroom shows a warning first, because the conversation, including clip and file names, is then sent to that service. Every tool that changes your project waits for Allow or Deny by default.
Which AI models work best with Cutroom?
Cutroom works with Ollama models or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. In our own testing, small local models were unreliable at multi-step edits, and larger or hosted models did noticeably better, which is why Cutroom proposes each step and asks before changing your project. Cutroom is alpha software, so save a copy of anything important first.
Is this the same Cutroom as other projects with that name?
